About

Julie Pongrac emphasizes an aesthetic that transcends time and space with the aim to captivate the viewer and subliminally invite them to re-enter the world of the natural. Her training in science provides a unique basis of insight on many natural processes. Exploring sculpture through traditional fibre arts techniques such as knitting, felting and basketry, she focuses on the interrelationships and properties of unusual materials such as stainless steel threads and foraged natural or reclaimed materials.  The aim of each piece is to capture the essence of the object or idea.  Line, form, light and colour are crucial to representing these ideas.  Working in techniques not traditional to sculpture, but better known as women’s work and largely undervalued  she approaches work from the philosophy that the medium is the message.  She can be contacted at info@juliepongrac.com.
